KHAR: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl leader Mufti Sultan Mohammad, who was critically wounded in an attack on Monday morning, succumbed to injuries at hospital, officials said on Tuesday.

They said the 37-year-old activist died at CMH Peshawar at 11pm on Monday. His body was brought to his native Badan town of Mamond tehsil from Peshawar early on Tuesday morning.

The officials said that Mufti Sultan, who was also the head of JUI-F Mamond tehsil, was going to a nearby mosque for offering morning prayers on Monday when unidentified men opened fire at him with automatic weapons.

The victim was first shifted to the district headquarters hospital, Khar, and then airlifted to CMH Peshawar due to his precious condition as he received three bullets on lower parts of his body.

Officials and his family members told Dawn that the JUI-F leader remained unconscious throughout the course of treatment and could not survive.

The JUI-F leader was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Badan village on Tuesday afternoon.

People from different walks of life, including party workers, political and social activists and local lawmakers, attended the funeral prayers.
