SWABI: A 220KV grid station would be established in the district to ensure smooth supply of electricity to the consumers, sources in Pesco told this correspondent here the other day.

They said that the project had already been approved and it would cost Rs6.13 billion. They said that work on the grid station was expected to be started soon and it would be completed in three years.

Sources said that National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser was taking great interest in the project and in this regard he was in constant contact with the officials concerned and leaders of the ruling party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

They said that Mr Qaiser also wanted upgradation of the transmission line as electricity requirements of the people had increased manifold.

The establishment of grid station is a longstanding demand of the local people.

The sources said that the new grid station would resolve the issue of prolonged outages and low voltage. Besides, it would also ensure smooth power supply to the consumers and industry in the district, especially Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate.
