Hockey disaster

APROPOS the news item ‘Netherlands crush Pakistan’s Olympic dreams with 6-1 demolition’ (Oct 28).

The fact is that hockey has become more or less a game played on ice with skates and pucks. I don’t think our children will be able to play this game with white children who have exposure to winter sports. As they are used to this atmosphere and sport, their speed and leg power cannot be matched.

Our children might be fast runners but not all of them have the same physical training.

We should encourage other sports, we are good at or we should start longterm programmes for our kids in hockey and other sports. In Asia, maybe we shine a bit but it is not that same across the globe.
