LAHORE: Despite some improvement in his platelets, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif needs aggressive management, says his personal physician Dr Adnan Khan.
“Despite all efforts Mr. Sharif’s underlying diseases & the treatment itself leads to complicated clinical consequences with significantly unstable critical health status. Nawaz Sharif remains under treatment in intensive care setting, requiring aggressive management,” Dr Khan said on Friday in a tweet.
Mr Sharif’s platelets on Friday increased from 51,000 to 55,000. “Mr Sharif continues on life saving doses of Steroids & Eltrombopag (Revolade; thrombopoietin receptor agonist) to achieve a platelet
count safe for maintenance of coronary/carotid circulation (avoiding heart attack & stroke) & also to avoid spontaneous bleeding,” he said.
Mr Sharif was shifted to the hospital from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore’s custody on Oct 21 following his personal physician Dr Adnan Khan raised an alarm saying his (Sharif’s) condition was serious as his platelets had dropped to a critically low level.
The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday granted bail to Nawaz Sharif, suspending his seven-year sentence in the Al-Azizia corruption reference on medical ground.
Earlier, Sharif secured bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case from the Lahore High Court on similar ground.
