HARIPUR: A man charged with killing a former councillor escaped from the court’s premises after the cancellation of his pre-arrest bail.

The FIR registered by the Khalabat Township police quoted complainant Syed Javed Shah as claiming he and his friends were attacked by four gunmen, including former village council nazim Asim Shah, Qaiser, Shehzad and Mazhar Shah, near Dari Chowk in Khalabat Township on Oct 7 night.

The firing killed Haji Tanveer, a former councillor of Soka Pandak village council.

A dispute was reported to be the cause of firing.

Following the registration of an FIR by the police, the accused obtained pre-arrest bail from a local court but it was cancelled on Saturday.

The police arrested three accused, while Asif Shah escaped from the court’s premises.

Mohammad Bashir, father of the slain councillor, alleged that the police facilitated the escape. He demanded the immediate arrest of the accused.

SHO of the Khalabat Township police station Ali Jadoon denied the allegation and claimed that only three accused were present in the court for bail confirmation, while Asim Shah was absent.

INFANT DIES OF BURNS: A two-year-old boy died of critical burns in Kotnajibullah village here on Saturday.

The police said Fawad Akmal, a two-year-old resident of Mohallah Kasran, had burnt 90 per cent of his body as a container filled with boiled water fell on him in the kitchen.

The child died on the way to the Wah Cantonment Hospital.
