The Lahore High Court has issued a notice to the federal government in a miscellaneous petition seeking the arrest of JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman and for treason proceedings to be initiated against him.
A single-judge bench of the high court asked the federal government to submit its reply. During the proceedings, the court noted that it is the government's responsibility to stop any activities against the state in the country.
Advocate Nadeem Sarwar had submitted a petition calling for the JUI-F chief's arrest and for treason proceedings to be initiated against him. In his petition, Sarwar said that Rehman is riling up people and there is a fear of anarchy spreading in the country.
In a speech, the JUI-F chief had said that the Azadi March participants could go to Prime Minister House and arrest Prime Minister Imran Khan, the petitioner said. He added that riling up people against the state falls in the category of treason.
