KARACHI: Falcon Club beat Bahria Club 48-46 in a thrilling final to lift the title of 1st Mehmood Maulvi Cup Basketball at Abdul Nasir Basketball Courts in Arambagh on Sunday night.

The main scorers for the winners were Nasir (18 points), Sabih (12 points) and Umar Shabbir (10 points).

For the runners-up, the main contributors were Hammad Khan (14 points), Aun Akram (12 points) and Zunair (10 points).

Seasoned politician and Federal Secretary Mehmood Maulvi was the chief guest on the occasion and gave away the trophies and awards to players.

The Fair Play Trophy went to Richards of Patrician Club while Shaharyar Nasir was named Player of the Tournament. Rookie of the Tournament trophy was won by Aun Akram.

PTF VP Khalid Jamil Shamsi, KPT Sports Manager Col retd Syed Baseer Alam, SOA Vice President Engr Mehmoozul Haq and KBBA president Ghulam Muhammad Khan were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mehmood announced that various sports events including the Governor Sindh Sports Festival will be held in Karachi and in Sindh with a view to promoting sports at the grass-roots level. He also announced to sponsor the tour of Karachi U-18 team to interior of Sindh. Parliamentary Secretary MNA Abdul Shakoor Shaad said that Karachi is rich in sports talent and the boys and girls from the metropolis have shone at international level, winning laurels for the country and fetching medals at every level.
