SUKKUR, Aug 10: A spokesman for Siemens has denied claims of irrigation authorities of Sukkur and Guddu barrages that the company’s general manager had assured them that the fault of the telemetry system would be removed as soon as possible.

Zia-ul-Islam Zubairi, divisional director, corporate communication, Siemens-Pakistan Engineering Company Limited, in a message faxed to Dawn said reports appearing in different newspapers about faults found in the telemetry system dur-

ing the inspection were not correct.

The spokesman said there was no fault in the system as the basic design of the telemetry system was in accordance with the approved project cost (PC-1) and the system in place could not be blamed for operational problem.

The spokesman said maintenance of sites at Sukkur and Guddu were taken over only last week by Siemens to demonstrate the importance of this operational aspect and help the customer in successful operation of the system.

Mr Zubairi said the fact was that after only a few days the reading were almost back to normal which showed that affective maintenance could help run the system smoothly and without any problem.

He said the system had been handed over to the authorities in perfect running condition.

The spokesman said Siemens continued to work closely with Wapda and IRSA to assist them even without any contractual obligation.
