LAHORE: A woman was allegedly shot dead by her brother following a dispute in Manga Mandi area on Tuesday.

Azhar and Sadia had a heated argument at the wedding ceremony of their relative and later he allegedly shot at her, said initial police inquiries. Sadia was rushed to hospital with a bullet in her chest, but she died there. Azhar, however, fled from the scene.

A police official claimed that Sadia had married a man six months ago against the wishes of her family. Since then Azhar had nourished a grudge against her, he said, adding he murdered Sadia over the same issue.

Police lodged a murder case against the suspect and sent the body to the city morgue.

In another incident, Jamil alias Billa Gujjar was shot dead by his rivals in Baghbanpura following an enmity.

According to the police, two armed men who came on a motorcycle ambushed Jamil near Bund Road, shot at him and fled from the scene leaving him seriously injured. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

Police said that according to initial inquiries, Jamil had killed a man 10 years ago and a case had been lodged against him on the complaint of the deceased’s brother, Kashif alias Kashi.

Quoting relatives of Jamil, police suspected that he might have been killed on Tuesday by Kashif to avenge his brother’s murder.

Police filed a murder case against the suspects and sent Jamil’s body to morgue for autopsy.
