LAHORE: Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has said that inflicting violence on women is an inhuman act and not only a social evil, but also a legal offence.

In a message on the eve of International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women here on Sunday, the chief minister said injustice with any woman on the basis of gender amounted to cruelty. By empowering women and granting them equal rights, he said, it would be possible to eradicate such a social vice.

He said making effective legislation in order to prevent violence on women was part of the PTI government’s priorities. In order to provide prompt justice and redress grievances of women, a state-of-the-art centre was functioning in Multan and facilities of police, prosecution, medical and forensic were available under one roof there. He said the scope of such centres would be expanded across the province to redress grievances of women and provision of prompt justice.

The CM also said the PTI government was sincere and determined to resolve problems of violence-stricken women.
