QUETTA: Balochistan’s Minister for Public Health and Engineering Noor Mohammad Dummar on Sunday inaugurated a dam and Karez in the old Sanjavi area.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Dummar said that Balochistan had been facing an acute shortage of water since long. He said the people of the province were being forced to resort to unregulated extraction of groundwater through tube wells.
He said since Balochistan was the most neglected province of the country, it had been adversely hit by water shortage since 2010. “According to some estimates, the province will face chronic water shortages in coming years if the incumbent provincial government continues to ignore the issue."

Good news. Does that get the count of number of dams in Pakistan into double figures?

He people also need to be educated on use of scarce water resource. It is criminal to grow wheat and cotton in a place like Balochistan using flood irrigation. Can you imagine flood irrigation in Balochistan. Cost free electricity from solar panels has exaggerated the plunderous use of UG water

baluchistan could be an agricultural hub if there is modern farming techniques with adequate water supply, this could help to alleviate certain commodity shortages. I do hope more is done to create water and electricity supply to all parts of balochistan.
