LARKANA: The Pakis­tan Peoples Party-backed pa­nel of lawyers defeated Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-bac­ked rivals in the annual election of the High Court Bar Association, Lar­k­ana, held here on Wednesday.

Senior lawyer Syed Aijaz Ali Shah acted as the election commissioner.

More than 900 lawyers cast their vote.

According to the unofficial results, Asif Abdul Raz­zak Soomro of the Trus­ted Friends panel bagged 419 votes against 91 votes secu­red by Babu Sarfaraz Jatoi of the Sindh Dost panel for the post of president.

The Sindh Dost panel could win the seat of treasurer alone whereas Mazhar Mangan had already retur­n­ed uncontested as vice president.

Ashfaq Hussain Abro polled 291 votes to beat Mohammed Afzal Jagirani, who was restricted to 213 votes, for the slot of general secretary. Abdul Khaliq Bughio won the post of joint secretary by bagging 285 votes to beat Aftab Soomro, who got 218 votes.
