PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party lawmakers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have urged the party leadership to convene a convention of senior ideological workers to share views about the current national issues and party position in order to devise the future strategy.

The demand was raised by party’s parliamentary leader in the provincial assembly Sher Azam Wazir and MPA Ahmad Kundi in a joint statement here on Friday.

They said that the PPP’s 52nd foundation day would be held on Saturday (today) in Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir, to reaffirm the pledge for restoration of the party’s past position on solid basis.

The lawmakers urged PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to focus his attention on bringing together all the dispersed ideological people of the party for consultation on the prevailing political and party situation in the country.

They also recalled the sacrifices rendered by the party leadership for strengthening democracy and protection the rights of poor people. They paid tribute to the people who remained in prisons and faced tribulations during martial laws.

Meanwhile, party’s provincial president Mohammad Humayun Khan in a separate statement said that it was the PPP leadership that served the country selflessly. He said that the credit went to PPP which always focused on provision of jobs and health and education facilities in different provinces.

He criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government for creating the present price hike, joblessness and financial crisis in the country. He said that PTI was unable to find any solution to the economic issues and the best way in the prevailing situation was to hold fresh general elections.
