TAXILA: The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) has approved upgrading of Govt College of Technology in Attock to provide a skilled local workforce, the chairman of the Punjab Public Accounts Committee said on Sunday.

Speaking to the press, Syed Yawar Abbas Bokhari said the aim was to provide skilled workers to the local defence industries, future China Pakistan Economic Corridor projects and the proposed industrial estate under the youth skills programme,

“Equipping the youth with the latest technologies and their skills development is at the top of the current government’s agenda and we are focused on taking special measures to mobilise our youth and provide them with a conducive learning environment so that they are in a better position to explore their abilities and skills,” Mr Bokhari added.

He claimed that the PTI government was carrying out reforms to link education and vocational training systems to labour market requirements, adding that economic growth could not be achieved without promoting technical education and vocational training.

In response to a question, he said after being made a centre of excellence the college will have state-of-the-art facilities and will benefit the youth of Attock and the surrounding areas.

Discussing other development projects, Mr Bokhari said Teen Meela Chowk to Haji Shah Road will be made into a dual carriageway and a mother and child healthcare hospital will be built in Attock. He said work on these projects, which will cost billions of rupees, will begin soon.
