BAHAWALPUR: Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa has declined to request the government to establish a NAB court in Bahawalpur, saying he will not make any demand to the government to avoid being asked for any favour in return.
Speaking at a farewell dinner arranged in his honour by the District Bar Association and the High Court Bar Association on Saturday night, he told the audience that he would not ask the government to set up a NAB court as demanded by the Bar association.
He said 250 young lawyers of Bahawalpur would be imparted training in law and judicial matters in phases at the Federal Judicial Academy. He reminded the judges and lawyers of their professional responsibilities towards the people awaiting justice. He said the judges should not spoil the case of a client due to the behaviour of a lawyer.
The cause lists displayed outside courts were in fact an “amanat” and dispensation of justice was the main duty of the judges who were duly paid for the job and given privileges. He said the judges should also educate the lawyers and the junior advocates should learn from their seniors in seminars and workshops. The young lawyers, he advised, should develop the habit of studying journals and law books to keep themselves abreast with the latest knowledge.
He praised the Seraiki and Baloch, saying “if you extend respect to them, in return you will get more honour and regard.” He said he was pleased to undertake the visit to his own Seraiki belt.
The chief justice also praised the late Bahawalpur Nawab about whom historical facts were quoted by High Court Bar Association general secretary Muhammad Ayyaz Kuliar.
DBA President Mian Muhammad Azhar delivered the welcome address.
