SUKKUR, Aug 12: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has called upon the people of Sindh to join hands with the Muttahida, which has solution to all the problems being faced by Sindh.
Addressing a public meeting at the Jinnah Municipal Stadium here on telephone on Friday evening, he said that the feudal system would be ended in Sindh and the common man would be strengthened to demand his rights. He said that if given a chance he would fulfil the promise.
Altaf Hussain blamed the establishment for clashes in the past between Sindhi and Urdu-speaking people in the province and said that now no-one could spark a conflict between them as they were fully aware of the conspiracy. He said that the Muttahida would create an atmosphere in which a Sindhi house would give shelter to Urdu-speaking people, while the homes of Urdu-speaking people would provide shelter to the Sindhis. He said that both the peoples would jointly struggle to safeguard the rights of Sindh.
He regretted that the People’s Party was now forging an alliance for local polls with parties which had celebrated the execution of Z.A. Bhutto. He said that the while PPP exploited the martyrdom of Z.A. Bhutto it never brought to book the people responsible for his murder. He said that although the PPP ruled the country twice, it did not set up any commission to probe into the death of Z.A. Bhutto.
He said that if given a chance he would set up a commission to probe into the murder of Z.A. Bhutto and punish the people responsible.
He said that some religious elements were trying to hold the country hostage and desired to keep women confined to homes. He made it clear that he would never allow the Mullahs to take over the country. He strongly opposed the Hasba bill.
The MQM chief also condemned elements who, he said, were using the Sindh card to climb to power. After that they would do nothing in the interests of Sindh. He called upon the people to vote for the MQM, from Karachi to Kashmore, so that their problems could be solved on priority basis.
Earlier, Ismail Qureshi, member of the Rabita committee, criticized the policies of the Jamaat-i-Islami and other religious parties and a well-known Urdu daily which, he said, was not giving ‘proper coverage’ to the Muttahida.
