LAHORE, Jan 15: The Punjab has crossed its wheat sowing target, set by the Federal Committee on Agriculture (FCA), of 15.272 million acres by 200,000 acres.

According to latest figures compiled by the crop reporting centre of the Punjab Agriculture Department, the sown acreage now stands at 15.475 million acres; more than the inflated target of 15.458 million acres set by the Punjab Agriculture Department.

News from the barani areas is not bad as has been initially feared. Light rain during Eid days did help in retaining some moisture in the soil, an irrigation official said

“The present picture looks good, but it does not necessarily mean a bumper crop this year; a lot will depend on rains, their timing and temperature,” he said.
