ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi on Wednesday asked all chief commissioners of Inland Revenue for implementation of automated point-of-sale (PoS) systems at outlets across the country latest by December 25.

An official statement issued here said the chairman directed all field formation that in addition to relevant notices for implementation of POS, dedicated teams be constituted and authorised by the concerned commissioner to contact each such retailer ensuring for registration with the system.

He further said that member information technology can be contacted for additional support.

Last date for PoS registrations was Dec 1, which was extended to December 15.

As part of the documentation drive, the FBR extended the deadline for registration of big retailers at luxurious shopping malls, retail chains and stores having size of at least 1,000 square feet to raise due taxes till Dec 15.

Following the installation of PoS, big retailers will report their sales in real time to the FBR to ensure tax collected from consumers at the cash counter is actually deposited with the government.

The FBR projects that the PoS systems will be installed at around 20,000 businesses and outlets by June 2020. Currently, only 3,800 shops are registered with the PoS.
