QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani has informed the provincial assembly that reservations of the opposition members are genuine about development projects, but tenders for expansion of roads in Quetta have not been cancelled.
Responding to a calling attention notice of Malik Naseer Ahmed Shahwani, parliamentary leader of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal, the chief minister said his government wanted to build such good quality roads in the provincial capital which had not been constructed over the past 40 years.
He said expansion of Quetta roads was a huge project and his government was making all-out efforts to complete it.
Mr Shahwani wanted to know if it was correct that the tenders for expansion of roads and link roads under the Quetta Package had been cancelled. He said that the project worth billions of rupees was of great importance to address traffic problems in Quetta.
The chief minister said his government intended to get Quetta roads constructed and expanded by experienced companies, adding that the smallest project of expansion of roads was of Rs500 million while the biggest was of Rs7 billion.
“Many firms of Balochistan could not qualify owing to their quality, but the projects would be given to such companies that could meet the quality standards,” he said, adding that after some amendments the tendering process would be started within a few days.
