TAXILA: The Punjab government has spent Rs6 billion on provision of civic facilities in the urban and rural areas of Attock.

This was stated by Public Accounts Committee Punjab Chairman Syed Yawar Abbas Bokhari at the inaugural ceremony of Sanjwal link road in Attock on Sunday. An amount of Rs59.16 million was spent on the construction of the road.

He said the government was striving hard to improve the life standard of the masses by providing them basic amenities at their doorsteps. He said there were about 500 mega development projects being executed across the province with an estimated cost of Rs152 billion.

Mr Bokhari said thousands of people living in Boora, Jasian, Dhoke Tarbethi, Sanjwal, Bolianwal, Saqabad, Golra and Dhok Jogian villages would benefit from the new road.

He said the DHQ hospital Attock would be expanded to 580 beds and a trauma centre would be constructed on GT Road near Gondal to facilitate residents of Attock, Hazro, Hasanabdal and Khairabad. Besides, all basic health units in the district were being upgraded.

He said setting up of a mother and child healthcare hospital, nursing college and dualisation of Haji Shah Road had been approved and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar would soon inaugurate work on these projects.

Mr Bokhari said the Govt College for Technology Attock had been given the status of Centre of Excellence and soon Attock would have its own university.

He said a large number of people suffering from chronic diseases were being provided treatment through the Insaf Health Card Scheme.
