KOHAT: An e-challan system has been introduced in Kohat on the directives of district police officer Mansoor Aman, doing away with the manual method of ticketing the traffic violators, with a view to curbing corruption and addressing the complaints of transporters.

The e-challan system has been directly linked to the computers of the traffic police headquarters, which will have the record of challan amount, name of the driver and his/her licence.

After depositing the challan amount the drivers could get their licence from the headquarters, DPO Mr Aman told reporters.

He said the wardens had started implementing the e-challan system by charging transporters on their electronic mobile devices.

SCORES OF SUSPECTS HELD: The police arrested a large number of suspects, including 30 Afghans and a proclaimed offender, during an operation headed by SP operations Tahir Iqbal in the surroundings of Kohat district prison and the suburbs of Cheechana refugee camp.

Over 100 houses were also checked and three non-local residents were held for not registering themselves with the police.

The police also seized a Kalashnikov, a repeater, a rifle, three pistols and 350 cartridges.

All the accused were moved to the Jarma police station where cases were registered against some of them and interrogation of Afghan refugees was in progress.
