MOUNDS of garbage along the main roads and important thoroughfares pose a serious challenge to the Sindh government and Sukkur city administration.
Sukkur is the third largest city of the province with a population of nearly three million. Tonnes of waste is ending up in open spaces daily and remains unattended owing to improper waste management.
The unplanned construction of high-rise buildings in the last few years has also added to the problem.
This filth is having serious consequences on the people’s health. One major hurdle is the delay in the release of funds for civic departments. This has hindered development work.
The Sindh government needs to release funds and take waste management measures immediately.
