KARAK: The owners of medical stores have rejected hike in the prices of medicines and demanded of the government to withdraw the recent increase in the rates of lifesaving drugs.

In this connection, a meeting of the owners of drug stores was held here on Thursday with Fazal Mehmood in the chair. The meeting was attended by the office-bearers of the chemist association and traders of medicines in a large number.

The participants of the meeting expressed anguish over hike in the prices of medicines. They said that increase in the prices of medicines made the lives of poor people miserable. They claimed that government announced 15 per cent increase in the prices of medicines but actually it was about 30 per cent. They asked the government to withdraw the decision forthwith to provide some relief to people.

The participants of the meeting also extended full support to the drug inspector in maintenance of quality drugs and said that they would follow rules and regulations in letter and spirit.

VISIT: The director of sports board, Naimatullah, visited several sites in Karak for setting up sports complex in the district and also announced Rs5 million for Kurpali cricket stadium.

The director visited the proposed sites in Jail area and Tablighi Markaz locality and along the Indus Highway. He said that work on the sports complex would be launched soon.

ARREST: Police claimed to have arrested the ringleader of a group of car lifters and three other members of the group and also recovered three stolen motorcycles from their possession.

SP Gul Nawaz Jadoon told a press conference that four car lifters identified as Naimatullah alias Matolay, Sher Aleem, Akthar Jameel and Mohammad Anwar were arrested by police. He said that three motorcycles stolen from a showroom near Tangori Sar few days ago were recovered from them.

Police registered FIR against them and shifting them to an unspecified location for investigation.
