GILGIT: The Skardu-Deosai road was opened to traffic on Friday after removing heavy snow from it.

This road has been opened for the first time during winter, as owing to heavy snowfall people couldn’t travel through it for five months from November to March.

According to a press release issued on Friday, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Skardu, has successfully opened the Skardu-Deosai road up to Deosai Top.

It said that the DDMA started its operation for opening the road on December 22 on the request of Pakistan Air Force.

The Deosai National Park is a high-altitude alpine plain and national park in Gilgit-Baltistan located at an average elevation of 4,114 metres above sea level.

An official told this scribe that 100 feet snow had been removed from Skardu to Deosai Top. The area is now accessible to tourists, which would promote winter tourism.
