NOWSHERA: Medicines worth millions of rupees smuggled from Punjab have been seized in Nowshera. The medicines were carrying tags of ‘not for sale’ and ‘Government of Punjab’.

According to police, the medicines were looted from stores in Punjab on September 9 and smuggled to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for sale. To collect the stolen medicines worth around Rs15.32 million the Punjab police reached Nowshera.

However, sources said that the Khyber Pakthunkhwa government refused to hand over the medicines without completing legal procedure.

The medicines were recovered from two warehouses at Azakhel, Nowshera, when a mini-truck driver Peer Mohammad of Khattak Kallay, Nowshera, was taken into custody while unloading medicines of different companies.

The police said that ASI Zakria Khan was on routine patrolling when he noticed the man unloading medicines from a truck. They checked the medicines which had the tags of the ‘government of Punjab’ and ‘not for sale’.
