PESHAWAR: The annual elections of Peshawar Press Club were held on Saturday wherein Syed Bukhar Shah was elected president and Imran Yousufzai general secretary.
Arshad Aziz Malik and Nasir Hussain were runners-up in the elections for the seats of president and general secretary respectively.
The third panel headed by Alamgir Khan as presidential candidate and Riffat Orakzai as candidate for the slot of general secretary could not win any of the seats.
The other office-bearers include vice president Shahzada Fahd, finance secretary Aziz Buneri and joint secretary Abid Khan.
The 10-member governing body includes Shamim Shahid, Zeeshan Anwar, Tariq Waheed, Kashifuddin, Ihtesham Bashir, Ibrahim Khan, Zafar Iqbal, Asif Nisar, Hassan Ali and Shakil Farman Ali. A total of 32 journalists contested for the 10 seats of governing body.
The election committee was headed by Sharif Mohmand. The committee said that of the total 480 votes, 451 were polled and the process was completed in a peaceful manner.
However, the re-counting on the seat of general secretary caused delay in the announcement of the results till late in the night.
Meanwhile, Provincial Minister for Information Shaukat Yousufzai and Adviser to Chief Minister on Merged Districts Ajmal Khan Wazir congratulated the newly elected office-bearers of the press club.
In their separate statements, they expressed the hope that the office-bearers would fulfil their duties to facilitate the members of the press club in a befitting manner. They said that government would leave no stone unturned to resolves the problems of journalists at the earliest.
