LAHORE: Six matches were decided on the first day of the 34th Maple Leaf Cement Pakistan ITF Senior World Ranking Tennis Championship which commenced here at the Punjab Lawn Tennis Association courts on Monday.
Matches are being held in six age categories — U-35, 40, 45, 60, 65 and 70 — at the championship which will continue till Friday. There will be singles and doubles contests in the said categories.
On Monday, Usama Waheed outclassed Mohammad Yousuf 6-1, 6-0 in their U-35 men’s singles match. In 40-plus singles, Talha Waheed struggled to beat Ashar Khan 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 while Mohammad Shakeel comfortably defeated Waqas Ahmad Basit 6-1, 6-1.
In plus-60 event, retired Brig Ghazanfar Ali outplayed Mubeen Malik 6-0, 6-1.
Ikramullah carved out a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Khurram Khawaja in 65-plus singles and Naveed Najam beat Ashfaq Ahmed Chohan 6-3, 6-3 in the 70-plus event.
