CHAKWAL: Chief executive officer of District Education Authority Chakwal, Chaudhry Nasrullah Khan Chadhar died in a road accident on Lahore-Islamabad Motorway near Phularwan, police sources said on Saturday.

The accident occurred on Friday night at 12:15am when his car smashed into a truck from behind. Khan died on the spot.

He was survived by six daughters, a son and two wives.

A police official at Phularwan police station told Dawn that the family members of the deceased did not initiate any legal action.

PTI local leader Raja Usman Haroon rushed to the scene along with some officials of Education Department.

“I think CEO Nasrullah fell asleep during driving. That’s why his car rammed into truck,” Mr Haroon said.

Assistant Education Officer Khalil Khan who worked with the deceased at the head office told Dawn that Khan went to Islamabad on Friday to sell his car. When he returned from Islamabad late in the evening, he had a dinner with his friends in Chakwal. “At 10:30pm, he received a call from his home and was informed about the deteriorating health of his father. He then left Chakwal for Phalia where his family was living temporarily,” AEO Khalil added.

The Khan’s body was taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Bhera from where it was handed over to his family members.

He was laid to rest in his ancestral village Pindi Bhatian on Saturday. “We have lost an efficient and competent officer,” Deputy Commissioner Chakwal retired Captain Abdul Sattar Esani told Dawn. — Correspondent
