SAHIWAL: Manager of a private bank was allegedly killed on Monday for offering resistance during a robbery near his house in Scheme No 3, Z Block locality.

Police said quoting witnesses that bank manager Mumtaz Dogar was about to enter his house when he was intercepted by unidentified gunmen who attempted to deprive him of his belongings.

Dogar offered resistance and during the ensuing scuffle one of the gunmen shot him. He died on the spot. The gunmen fled the scene.

Farid Town police collected forensic evidence and shifted the body to the district headquarters hospital for an autopsy.

Farid Town Station House Officer Zeeshan Dogar told Dawn on phone that police were investigating the murder from all angles.

FINE: The owner of a marquee on Madhali Road was slapped Rs50,000 fine for violating one-dish rule during a marriage ceremony.

The fine was imposed by Assistant Commissioner Dilawar Sufyan during a raid on Sunday night.

The AC received a complaint that the one-dish rule was being violated during a marriage ceremony.

The AC, along with a police team, raided the marquee and on finding the owner guilty slapped the fine on him.

Official sources said after the raid the food being served to guests was seized and sent to the district Panah Gah (shelter home).

CHAIRMAN: The Punjab Services and Regulation Department has appointed Hafiz Muhammad Shafiq, Sahiwal BISE Chairman, as the chairman of the Punjab Board Committee --- a statuary body handling matters of nine boards across the province.

It is learnt S&GAD has issued a notification in this regard.

Talking to media, Hafiz Shafiq said it was his utmost desire to bring credibility and transparency to the existing examination system.
