LAHORE: The Punjab government has sought fresh medical reports of former premier Nawaz Sharif to make an “informed decision” about allowing extension in his stay abroad for further treatment.

Mr Sharif had sought extension in his stay abroad on Dec 23 on the expiry of the four-week period he was allowed to be in London for his medical treatment.

The Punjab home department had received an application for extension in Mr Sharif’s stay abroad, along with his medical reports, and forwarded the same to the health department late last month for assessment by a medical board.

However, after the passage of more than a week, the Punjab government has now asked for Mr Sharif’s fresh medical reports to decide about extension in his stay abroad.

Sources say the government delayed examination of the previous medical reports, while Mr Sharif was already overstaying abroad by more than two weeks.

A home department official told Dawn that the health department had forwarded the reports with certain queries and demanded more reports to assess Mr Sharif’s latest medical condition so that an informed decision could be taken regarding extension in his stay abroad.
