ISLAMABAD: Dispelling the impression of a rift in the government’s economic team, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has said its chairman Shabbar Zaidi will resume office on Jan 20.

An official statement issued by the national tax body said that Mr Zaidi was on two-week leave which was going to end on Jan 19. He is likely to resume office on Monday and his first day business will include Prime Minister Imran Khan’s interaction with traders.

According to the statement, the leave of the chairman was necessitated by his annual medical check-up in Karachi and some family commitments. The chairman as a part of the economic team of government enjoyed full confidence of the prime minister and his adviser on finance, the statement further said.
