GUJRAT: Consistent rain has once again exposed the poor sewerage and drainage system of Gujrat where most of the main arteries and streets remained submerged in rainwater on Monday, disrupting routine life.

Rehman Shaheed Road, Prince Chowk, Railways Road, Court Road, Circular Road, main bazaar, Ali Pura Road, Jinnah Road and district administration compound were all severely hit by the rain.

As Monday was the first day of schools after the three-week winter vacation, attendance remained thin and those who went to schools had trouble commuting to and from home.

Meanwhile, Gujrat Municipal Corporation Administrator Khurram Shahzad along with officials of the civic agency visited various parts of the city and inspected the disposal stations where he was briefed that motors were running to full capacity. However, the major city roads remained inundated with water throughout the day.

On the other hand, Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) Chief Executive Mohsin Raza Khan has appealed to the masses to keep children and livestock away from electricity poles and wires and immediately inform the nearby Gepco office in case of any emergency.
