GWADAR: The Balochistan government has provided compensation to the fishermen of Gwadar who faced losses when their fishing vessels were destroyed due to strong wind and high tide in the Arabian Sea last week.

The deputy commissioner of Gwadar, retired Captain Muhammad Waseem, distributed cheques among the affected fishermen.

According to the officials who carried out a survey for assessing the losses sustained by the fishermen, 37 fishing boats were destroyed and about 70 others damaged on the Gwadar coast due to the calamity.

After the survey, the provincial government approved a grant of Rs20.5 million for providing assistance to the fishermen deprived of their vessels.

Captain Waseem and Balochistan Awami Party leader Mir Yaqoob Bizenjo also distributed cheques among the families of the two fisherman of Peshkan who lost their lives in the high tides.
