KARACHI: The local basketball season in Karachi for the year 2020 will kick off with the Kashmir Solidarity Cup which will commence on February 5 at the Abdul Nasir courts.

This was announced by President Karachi Basketball Association Ghulam Mohammad here on Monday after the annual general body meeting.

“As many as fifteen basketball tournaments — including twelve boys events and three girls events — will be held this year,” he said.

Besides, there will be refreshers courses for coaches and umpires in March which will be conducted by Amna Mukhtar and Zafar Iqbal respectively.

The KBBA chief further added that the registration of basketball clubs in the city will be done from Jan 20 to Jan 30 for which the clubs should contact KBBA secretary Tariq Hussain.

The association decided that in June-July this year, a basketball coaching camp will also be set up while two boys under-20 teams will be playing exhibition matches in the Interior of Sindh.

The KBBA thanked Karachi Gymkhana and NJV High School for upgrading the basketball courts at their premises and also expressed gratitude to DMC South and East for providing facilities for the sport at Abdul Nasir courts and Nishter Park court.

It was also noted by the association that basketball received a lot of support in 2019 from Secretary Sport Sindh Imtiaz Ali Shah, Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani, sports promoter Dr Farhan Essa and others.
