Haris becomes national U-21 snooker champion

ISLAMABAD: Top seed Haris Tahir clinched the Jubilee Insurance U-21 National Snooker Championship after comfortably beating Umer Farooq here at the Pakistan Sports Complex’s Snooker Hall on Thursday.

In the all-Punjab final, Haris tamed Umer 6-1, adding colour to his victory with three breaks (63, 68, 52) and finally winning (82-5, 77-39 (63), 19-73, 50-35, 91-21, 79-30 (68), 71-8 (52).

President Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association, Munawwar H. Shaikh and world champion Mohammad Asif were present at the occasion and later attended the prize distribution ceremony.

Munawwar appreciated the performance of the juniors players during the event and hoped they will improve with age and represent Pakistan on the international stage.

Later, the winners and runners up of all categories — U-18, U-18 and U-21 — were awarded with trophies. In the U-16 category, the highest break was made by Hamza Ilyas (67) while in the U-18 and U-21 competitions, Mohammad Umar Khan (106) and Muhammad Ahmed (85) recorded the highest breaks.
