KARACHI: Leaders of various political parties have expressed great shock and disgust at the disturbances in Hyderabad and have warned the people of the grave consequences of feelings of regionalism and lack of consciousness of the ideology for which Pakistan was established.

Condemning the “tragic disturbance” in Hyderabad “as nothing short of treachery to the nation” at a time when the civic competence of the people of Pakistan was under trial, Mian Mumtaz Daultana, President, Pakistan Muslim League (Council), appealed for “concord” among all sections of the people living there.

Khan Abdul Wali Khan, President of the NAP (Requisitionists) condemned the arson, loot and rioting in Hyderabad and called on all political parties to give serious thought to stopping the recurrence of such violence. He directed the Sind NAP members and workers to reach every disturbed spot and demonstrate themselves as symbols of peace, trying to change hatred and bitterness into peace, trust and love.

In Hyderabad, Mr Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, People’s Party chief, addressing a Press conference, spoke with feelings of “anguish and anger” at the state of affairs in Sindh’s ‘great city’, declaring: “Pakistan was not created for us to see the day when Muslims will shed the blood of Muslims”.
