ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) is expected to meet on Feb 10 to consider the elevation of senior puisne judge Justice Mohammad Qasim Khan as the next chief justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
When elevated, Justice Qasim Khan will replace LHC Chief Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh who will be reaching superannuation on March 18.
The JCP meeting will be presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed and attended by four senior most judges of the apex court — Justice Mushir Alam, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Maqbool Baqar — as well as the incumbent chief justice of the LHC. The meeting will also be attended by Attorney General Anwar Mansoor, Law Minister Farogh Naseem, a senior member of the Pakistan Bar Council, the provincial minister for law as well as the advocate general for Punjab.
After the decision, the recommendations of the JCP will be taken up by the eight-member bi-partisan Parliamentary Committee of the Parliament.
