LANDI KOTAL: The traffic police have opened a diving licence-issuing office in Landi Kotal tehsil of the Khyber tribal district.

The office would also provide e-challan devices and mobile sets to the traffic police officials.

Relevant officials said that drivers in Landi Kotal subdivision would now be issued driving licences at their hometown instead of going to Peshawar.

They said that at least 20 constables from the Khasadar force had been provided with e-challan devices for on-the-spot issuance of fines to drivers found guilty of traffic rules’ violations.

The officials said that 20 policemen would regulate vehicular traffic from Prangsam checkpost to Torkham border on the main Peshawar-Torkham Highway.

They said with the new arrangements and provision of modern equipment to the traffic police, number of road accidents would be curtailed to a great extent.

Meanwhile, the khasadars arrested the suspected killer of a tribal elder during a raid on a house in Jamrud.

Jamrud police station SHO Akbar Afridi said that the raid was conducted after they received a tip-off about the presence of Abid Mandukhel, suspected to be involved in the murder of local tribal elder, Walayat Shah. The elder was killed a week ago after being kidnapped from near his house in Lala Kandaw locality of Ali Masjid area.

The police officer said the arrested man was shifted to lockup where he confessed to his crime during the initial investigation.

Also, the security officials held a meeting with the elders from Jamrud and Landi Kotal subdivisions on Saturday at the army camp to review the overall security situation in the region.

The officials told the tribal elders that provision of security to local residents was their prime responsibility and that they would deliver their job with utmost sincerity.

The tribal elders assured the security officials of their full support and cooperation in maintenance of law and order situation and keeping a vigil on the movement of suspected persons.
