HYDERABAD: Action will be taken against those responsible for the construction of structures that cause defacing of cultural heritage and historical sites in the city.

This was stated by Hyderabad Commissioner Mohammad Abbas Baloch while chairing a meeting on heritage properties and their rehabilitation in his office on Monday.

The meeting discussed preservation of certain heritage sites and historical buildings. Additional Commissioner Syed Sajjad Hyder, Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Abro, Endowment Fund Trust director Dr Neelofar Sheikh, culture department director general Manzoor Kanasro and others attended the meeting.

Mr Baloch directed the officials concerned to ensure display of boards at each of heritage building to disseminate complete information about them. He called for removal of all banners and billboards obstructing their view.

The heritage and historical sites discussed at the meeting included Ganga Ram Building, Mukhe House, Tower Market, Neval Rai High School, Thora Chari, Sindh Government Law College and LMC Building.

Dr Neelofar Sheikh told the meeting that conservation of these buildings was a highly technical job which could not be carried out without the supervision of experts of this field. She said that the material used in conservation of such sites should match those which had been used in the original construction.
