MARDAN: Deputy commissioner, Mardan, Mohammad Abid Khan Wazir inaugurated the first slaughterhouse of the district here on Tuesday.
The inaugural ceremony was also attended by additional deputy commissioner Naik Mohammad Khan, tehsil municipal officer Nisar Khan, president of butchers association Anwar Khan and other relevant people.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Wazir said that the slaughterhouse had been built in the district so that the local butchers could slaughter their animals at one place.
He said that it was the longstanding demand of residents. Answering a question, he said that 70 animals could be slaughtered at a same time at the facility.
He claimed that the slaughterhouse having the relevant facilities had been built with a cost of Rs10 million.
The DC said that the government had built the facility to ensure availability of quality meat to the people.
He said that from now on the butchers would not be allowed to slaughter animals in their houses and streets.
He claimed that a veterinary doctor would supervise the slaughtering process daily.
On this occasion, he also asked the TMO to check slaughter of animals at places other than the official facility.
He announced that the government would also build more such facilities for butchers in the district.
Some of the elders on this occasion appreciated the authorities for establishing the slaughterhouse.
