LAHORE: PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Husain said on Tuesday the government should declare ‘hand fan’ a luxury item and proposed to levy tax on it in the coming budget.

Chaudhry Shujaat taunted the government with this comment after a delegation of Pakistan Electric Fan Manufacturing Association (PEFMA) headed by Mirza Jamshed called on him at his residence here on Tuesday and expressed its reservations on electric fan being included in luxury items.

He said to provide business facilities to the traders community was the duty of the government, but it had included electric fan in the luxury items.

“Those who included the electric fan in luxury items have airconditioners in their bathrooms. Electric fan is the item of the common man,” he said, adding “there are many food items for instance apple which Pakistan exports to other countries on which duty can be imposed”.
