KOHAT: The police here have arrested two members of a gang of highway robbers which in the first attempt looted a big amount of money and in the second strike shot and injured the same businessman in Lachi.

An official said that during interrogation they said that they had a three-member gang and were involved in several cases of robbing vehicles carrying chicken and cattle that had not been reported.

Lachi DSP Fazle Wahid and SHO Afzal Awan told mediapersons that the looted money, motorcycle used in the crime and two pistols had also been recovered.

They said that on January 8 a confectioner, Subhan Ullah, had reported to the police that unidentified armed men stopped him at Ghurzandi road when he was coming back to Kohat after making deliveries and recovering money from the shopkeepers.

They deprived him of Rs60,000 when he was embarking his pickup van.

He said that some people tried to snatch money from him which he resisted after which they injured him. Her also fired and injured one of them.

DPO Mansoor Aman took serious notice of the increasing robbery cases and asked a special investigation team to resolve the case.

A team, headed by Fazle Wahid, started investigations and reached the suspects Mubashir and Zeeshan, both residents of Lachi. Their third accomplice Zahid was at large.

The suspects were presented before the court which allowed their two-day physical remand to the police for further interrogation.
