DADU: People took to the streets and staged demonstrations at different places in Sehwan town on Friday in the wake of murder of a medical store owner by two armed men who opened fire on him after he refused to sell them some tablets without doctors’ prescription.

Eyewitnesses said that the armed men arrived at the medical store of Khadim Hussain Memon near Syed Abdullah Shah Institute of Medical Sciences and asked for toxic tablets. When Memon refused to hand over the drug without doctors’ prescription they scuffled with him and opened fire with a pistol, killing him on the spot and injuring his employee Wahid Bux Jahejo.

The area people gathered at the store after hearing the shots and surrounded the armed men when they tried to escape. They managed to capture Habibullah Machhi along with the pistol and handed him over him to police while his accomplice Rawal Khoso managed to flee but police chased him and arrested him at his home.

In the meanwhile, shopkeepers pulled down shutters and people poured onto streets as soon as they heard about the murder of Memon, who was also a lecturer at government boys degree college. They virtually locked down the town by staging demonstrations at various places and demanded punishment to the killers.

Jamshoro SSP Amjad Hussain Shaikh said that the accused had been arrested and the situation was under control.
