MARDAN: Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth on Saturday inaugurated work on construction of courtrooms in the Mardan Judicial Complex.

In this regard, a ceremony was held on the premises of the judicial complex, which was attended by the district and sessions judge, civil judges and lawyers.

Addressing the ceremony, Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth said that construction of courtrooms was the longstanding demand of Mardan-based lawyers. He said that it became possible due to the concerted efforts and cooperation of the relevant PHC officials, district judiciary and the relevant district bar association. He also applauded the efforts of his team in this regard.

The PHC chief justice stressed for expeditious disposal of cases, provision of basic facilities to the judicial officers and litigant public as well as the lawyers’ community.

On this occasion, he asked the lawyers to provide cheap and inexpensive justice to litigants by assisting the courts honestly, legally and professionally to the best of their abilities.

Justice Waqar Seth stresses swift disposal of cases

Justice Waqar Seth said that 17 more civil judges would be provided to Mardan to make up for shortage of judges and ensure timely disposal of cases besides reducing pendency of cases in the district.

Later, PHC Registrar Khwaja Wajiuddin, while briefing mediapersons said that 17 kanals had been transferred for construction of the courtrooms and allied facilities.

He said that the project included 30 courtrooms, information kiosk and offices for the government pleaders, public prosecutors and probation officers. Besides, judicial lockup, record room, conference room and construction of a mosque would also be included in the scheme.

He said that over Rs1 billion had been allocated and approved for construction of the Mardan Judicial Complex.

He said that the building was designed in such a way that its vertical and horizontal extension would be possible to cater to the future needs of judiciary. He said that Mardan district being one of the oldest sessions divisions would be provided all facilities in terms of infrastructure.

He said that efforts would be made to complete the project before its scheduled three-year time.

ROBBERY INCIDENTS: A mobile phone dealer, who was shot and injured during a robbery in Baghdada area here four days ago, died in Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, on Saturday. Local people said that robbery incidents had increased in the area.

The victim, Umair Sadiq, had offered resistance when armed robbers tried to snatch money and mobile phones from him in his shop.

The police, meanwhile, admitted that robbery incidents had increased in the area as an unidentified gang of robbers was targeting mobile dealers for the last few days.
