KOHAT: A police official was arrested in Jarma area on Saturday with a large quantity of unlicensed weapons and ammunition.
SHO of the Jarma police station Qismat Khan told reporters that constable Waheedullah Khan of Bannu police tried to smuggle arms from Darra Adamkhel to Bannu in his car.
He said the police seized one Kalashnikov, 10 pistols and 723 cartridges during the suspicious car’s inspection at the Muslimabad checkpost on the Indus Highway.
The SHO said the car was impounded, while the constable was shifted to the police station after the registration of an FIR against him over the arms smuggling bid.
It was the second such arrest in the last fortnight.

Chairing a high-level meeting, the DPO asked the police officials to begin a special public awareness campaign against organised crime and social ills.
He said the people involved in drug trafficking would be dealt with strictly.
The DPO asked the police to crack down on celebratory fire saying the illegal activity threatens the life of the common man.
He also said loan sharks, gamblers and the people involved in immoral activities wouldn’t be spared.
FAKE NOTES HELD: The police arrested Ateequr Rehman of Bannu here on Saturday after seizing local and UAE fake currency notes.
The currency notes valuing over one million rupees were seized by officials of the Riaz Saheed police station during the inspection of vehicles at the Kohaty Friendship Tunnel Toll Plaza checkpost.
SHO Islamuddin said the fake currency notes brought in from Darra Adamkhel were to be used in the local markets.
