LAHORE: Two policemen and a suspected drug pusher were injured in an alleged encounter in Liaqatabad on Sunday.

Police claimed that constables Amir and Nadeem were part of a team conducting a raid to arrest a suspected drug dealer, who opened fire on them. Both policemen suffered bullet injuries, while police retaliated to the assault and injured the suspect.

The injured were taken to Jinnah Hospital where they were said to be stable.

Later, a police contingent reached the spot, cordoned off the area and arrested the suspect after launching a search operation. They also registered a case against him for drug dealing and attacking policemen.

An investigation was under way.

INJURED: A 28-year-old man was shot at and injured in Manga Mandi on Sunday.

Police claimed Amir was on his way on Raiwind Road after work when three motorcyclists intercepted and shot at and injured him.

Amir was shifted to a nearby hospital where he was said to be in stable condition.

Initial investigations suggested the injured had exchanged harsh words with one of the suspects, Shafiq, a few days back who had developed a grudge against him. On Sunday, Shafiq shot at him to settle the score.

A police team collected forensic evidences from crime scene, recorded statements of the witnesses and was investigating the matter.

ELECTROCUTED: An 18-year-old labourer was electrocuted to death in Firdous Market, Gulberg. Imran, a shoe polisher, was working when he accidentally touched a live wire that had fallen from an electricity pole.

The victim received an electric shock and was shifted to nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him as brought dead. Police said they were investigating the matter.
