SWABI: The police have arrested scores of outlaws, including drug traffickers, during a crackdown launched on the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Sanaullah Abbasi.
District police officer Imran Shahid claimed this while briefing mediapersons here on Sunday.
He said SHOs had been directed to curb the drug menace, especially use of ice, in their respective jurisdictions, and submit reports to him.
He said during the last three days they had recovered 47 kilogrammes charas, one kilogramme heroin, over half a kilogramme ice drug, 48 pistols, 11 guns, two kalakoves, four Kalashnikovs and 743 rounds. He said 33 proclaimed offenders, including five drug traffickers, had been arrested.
He identified the drug traffickers as Khan Agha, an Afghan refugee, Ismail Khan of Kohistan and Atif Khan, Gul Samar and Mohammad Zeb of Swabi. He said the crackdown on drug pushers would continue.
Another police official said the district would be rid of the ice drug menace as youngsters were fast becoming addicted to it. He said an awareness campaign had also been launched in colleges and schools.
MOVE TO CURB INFLATION: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MPA Rangaiz Khan has said Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to take result-oriented steps for reducing the prices of essential commodities is a welcome move.
Speaking at a meeting on Sunday, he said the premier was aware of the difficulties confronted by the people due to inflation.
“The consumers will see a change as the provincial governments are going to introduce a price-reducing mechanism, and will punish the people involved in profiteering,” he said.
SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead in the mountainous region of Pajman on Sunday, police said.
The Swabi city police registered an FIR against the suspected killer, Sher Ali, on the complaint of a brother of the deceased, Sardar Ali. A woman-related issue was stated to be the cause of the murder.
