LAHORE: Misri Shah police have registered a case against Balaj Tipu, son of Tipu Truckanwala, and 16 others on charges of attempted murder.

The FIR was lodged against Balaj and his accomplices on the complaint of one Mohammad Khalil, a resident of Shamasabad, Misri Shah.

The complainant alleged that Balaj, who had exchanged harsh words with him in New Anarkali, came to the street where he lived on several vehicles with his guards carrying automatic weapons.

The FIR said the suspects barged into Khalil’s residence, dragged him out in the street and subjected him to torture.

It said when the suspects attempted to kidnap Khalil, scores of area people gathered there and foiled their bid, adding that Balaj later shot at him, leaving him injured.

He said the guards of Balaj also resorted to heavy aerial firing to terrify him and his family.

The complainant said he called the police on 15 helpline after which the attackers fled the scene, hurling life threats at him.

A police official said teams had been formed for the arrests of the suspects who had gone underground.
