KOHAT: The police sealed three shops, including a warehouse, for selling polythene shopping bags and arrested a trader here on Wednesday.

Additional assistant commissioner-III, Murad Khan Hoti also imposed a heavy fine on the traders and warned them against selling the banned shopping bags.

He asked them to sell environment-friendly shopping bags provided by the government. He also urged the people to insist on stamped shopping bags.

WEAPONS SEIZED: The police on Wednesday seized a big quantity of weapons destined for Punjab in a truck loaded with cement bags on the Indus Highway.

SP operations Tahir Iqbal, in a statement, said district police officer Mansoor Aman had given orders that the supply line of drugs and weapons from Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision to the interior of the country should be cut effectively.

He said during the last one week police had seized weapons and drugs worth millions of rupees and held the smugglers, including five policemen and a Levies man.

He said that acting on a tip-off, the Riaz Mohammad Shaheed police stopped a truck for checking, and during search, found 12 MP-5 guns, rifles, 60 pistols, hundreds of chargers and 140,000 cartridges.

The smugglers, Sher Salam and Inamul Haq from Peshawar, told police that they had loaded weapons from Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision.

The police produced them in court which sent them to prison.

BOY COMMITS SUICIDE: A teenage boy committed suicide inside his house in Lachi tehsil on Wednesday.

The police quoted the parents of the 17-year-old of Darshand area as saying that after having a brawl with them he locked himself up in a room, and later ended his life with a gunshot.

The police registered a case and started investigations.

Meanwhile, three persons were injured when a trailer rammed into toll collection box near the Kohat tunnel.

According to eyewitnesses and CCTV footage, the vehicle slipped and turned turtle. The driver and his helper ran away from the scene.
