CRIMINOLOGY was introduced in Pakistan as a subject in 1996 to root out crime and find its causes by professionals. Unfortunately, despite having scope and importance, criminology has been ignored and criminologists are jobless, disappointed by the government.
At the moment, 17 universities offer BA, BS, MSc, MPhil and PhD in criminology, but people having these degrees are mostly unemployed. In other countries, criminologists are appointed to control crime and research on finding about their reasons.
The government should recruit criminologists for various positions through Federal Public Service Commission and provincial competitive examinations.
